What is an ATOL and what does it do for me ?

ATOL (Air Travel Operators Licence) is a protection scheme for air holidays and flights and is managed by the Civil Aviation Authority. The ATOL scheme protects you from losing money or if you become stranded abroad.

What are the benefits of booking a package with an operator ?

Under the package regulations, the organisers are responsible for all the items in the package they sell you, this means if there is a problem with any of the suppliers involved the organiser is responsible and should sort things out. Also you have recourse (in the UK) if there are problems with your holiday arrangements, such as flights, accommodation or health and safety issue.

What if I build my own holiday?

Booking separate parts of a holiday may seem cheaper on the internet which is why there are more people booking "Diy Holidays". Since the internet has made this possible to book a low cost flight then use a separate accommodation agent, However despite what many air travellers believe these are not ATOL protected in the same way as if you booked a complete package
